Pottery for Two: A Creative Experience in London

18 September 2026

Two people enjoying a pottery session together

There is something lovely about making pottery with someone else. You arrive with time set aside just for the two of you, settle in with tea or coffee, and spend a few unhurried hours learning how clay responds to your hands.

Pottery for 2 is a private 2.5-hour experience in my small South Ealing garden studio. It is designed for couples, friends or family members who want to share a creative day together, whether you are complete beginners or have tried the wheel before.

A gentle beginning

The session begins with a welcome and a conversation about what you are going to make. You can get comfortable, meet the clay and become familiar with the wheel before the practical demonstration begins. There is no pressure to arrive knowing anything about pottery.

Learning side by side

I demonstrate the foundations of wheel throwing and then guide you both as you practise. Centering clay can feel mysterious at first, but small adjustments make a real difference. With hands-on support, you start to understand the movement, pressure and rhythm behind the process.

You will usually create two or three pieces each, choosing simple forms such as bowls or cups. Some will be wobbly, some will surprise you and all of them will show the marks of the time you spent making them together.

We are not trying to make one particular shape or achieve a perfect result. The joy is in enjoying the process, the moment and the togetherness of making side by side.

Pieces to remember the day

Once the session is finished, I trim, glaze and fire your work in the studio. Your finished pottery is ready to collect in approximately four weeks, giving you something useful and personal to take home from the experience.

You can also choose to have a signature added to the bottom of your piece, a small personal mark to remember this special activity together.

Who is it for?

Pottery for 2 makes a thoughtful creative date, a birthday or anniversary experience, and a meaningful gift for a friend or family member. The private setting means you can learn at your own pace, ask as many questions as you like and enjoy the process without a crowded workshop around you.
